Dear Friends,
After the sudden loss of Sonya Shorto back in October 2006. We are still deeply shocked and bemused by the events
however we know that there is much work to be done for Sonya's family and
also the Junior Soccer Club which were two of her big loves. As a family we
are strong and will continue to support each other when needed, which is
daily it seems.
The Junior Club of course will also continue with the help of those people
who were already to come on board. One of Sonyas’ biggest thrills was to see
the young players arrive at the Club and watch them grow into young adults
with the right outlook on life.
With this in mind we are setting up the “Sonya Shorto Memorial Trust Fund”
this money will be used to improve the players at the Junior Club in many
ways. Many people have said to us that if there was anything they could do
to help, please let them know. Well this is one real way we can make a
difference by donating to this fund. Any amount forwarded however small will
be used 100% to help the players at Balga Junior Soccer club. It may be
boots that actually fit or a special speaker to address the whole Club or
clothes to go to a special interview or some educational course. There are
many ways we can help these children improve their self respect and this is
what we will try to achieve. Please be assured that if you are unable to help in this way and
would like to assist, be it with some ideas or time, feel free to

The Balga Soccer Club on behalf of the Sonya Shorto Memorial Fund invite
applications from players registered with the Club, who are between the
ages of 12 to 16 inclusive at the time of their application, to apply
for a scholarship, which are available to enchance your advancement in
the sport in the fields of:- Coaching, Refereeing, Club Administraion or
Sports training and Injury treatment.
There are two scholarships available each year and they are a first step
to a possible career or at least a fuller involvement in the sport with
supplymentary income available throughout your life.
If you have any interest in any of the above fields please register your
interest by completing the attached form and return it to Balga Soccer
